CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A 15-year-old accused of shooting a 14-year-old Monday afternoon in what police say was supposed to be a fistfight is charged as an adult in Chester County with attempted murder.
According to the criminal complaint, Raul Castro of Pottstown was friends and classmates with the 14-year-old he is accused of shooting.
But over the weekend, they had a falling out and agreed to meet on the Chester County side of the Schuylkill River under a railroad bridge for a fight.
A third boy who police say witnessed the shooting tells police he heard gunshots and saw a bullet whiz past him, so he ran and hid.
When he came out of hiding about 15 seconds later, he says he saw his one friend on the ground bleeding from his abdomen, Castro standing over him.
That boy called 911 and told police Castro was the shooter.
The victim was flown to Reading Hospital and underwent emergency surgery. He survived, but will likely need additional surgeries.
Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan says Castro brought a gun to what should have been a fistfight.
