PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There’s a new millionaire in North Philadelphia.
The Pennsylvania Lottery said someone bought a scratch-off ticket worth $3 million at the New Germantown Grocery and Water Ice store at Germantown Avenue and Somerset Street, a popular neighborhood spot that might get a little more popular now.
The person who hit the big one comes in the store all the time for coffee and scratch-offs, store owner Savy Enty said.
“We’re happy for her! When we saw that, (we were) so surprised. I want to cry too, you know” she added.
The store also gets a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
Evora Gordon hopes the good luck is contagious.
“I’m happy for them. The only thing is, I bought a ticket too and I didn’t win nothing, the $30 ticket. So I’m hoping I get my money back, they got mine too! I’m glad somebody got it,” Gordon said.
“I feel very encouraged because these are good people,” said Dave, who is a regular at the store. He said he’s happy for the winner and the store owners.
“They always treat everybody nice. And they make you feel so comfortable in here, when you come in the store, that you don’t really want to leave,” he added. “So you have to play something or buy something before you leave. You can’t leave open-handed.”
And everyone at the store said they’re happy the winner is someone from the neighborhood.
Correction: In a earlier version, KYW Newsradio incorrectly stated that the store is located in Germantown. It’s located in North Philadelphia.
