A Germantown block party to ‘bring the people back together’

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A nonprofit in Germantown is hosting a free festival on Saturday to bring the community together — and it’s more than a block party barbecue.

During the summer, Keith Pate of the nonprofit Men Who Care of Germantown says they feed kids in the neighborhood free lunch and help them with their homework.

“We’re trying to just revive this community, bring the people back together,” Pate said.

Summer may be almost over, but he says their mission continues, which is why they’re hosting the block party.

“Free food, free entertainment,” Pate said. But he’s hoping people will come out for more than the free chicken, barbeque, burgers and dogs. He wants people to also take advantage of the free health screenings and more.

“We’re gonna also bring in the voting machines, the new machines they have that people aren’t familiar with, so they can learn about the new voting machines,” he said.

Pate says that all are welcome. The party is happening from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at 180 E. Tulpehocken St., two blocks off of Germantown Avenue.
