Bucks County DA’s Office seeks death penalty for Philly man accused of killing pregnant ex-girlfriend

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office is seeking the death penalty against a 28-year-old Philadelphia man who prosecutors say strangled and killed his pregnant ex-girlfriend and their unborn child.

Jaleel Loper entered a plea of not guilty for the murder of 30-year-old Anna Angok. Angok was found slumped on the couch of her Croydon apartment last September, with her 2-year-old daughter crying in a chair next to her.

An anonymous 911 caller alerted police of a disturbance at the apartment. Prosecutors say that call was traced back to her ex-boyfriend, Loper.

Prosecutor Edward Louka said they are seeking the death penalty against Loper in part because Angok was pregnant at the time.

“It’s egregious enough what he did to her unborn child,” he said. “We have every confidence he knew she was pregnant at the time.”

Prosecutors are also seeking the death penalty because of Loper’s prior history of violent crimes.

Loper was charged with harassment as well, as investigators say he used a phone app to text his ex-girlfriend from a different phone number. He pretended to be his sister, telling Angok that he was hurt in the hospital, and that she should reach out to him.
