PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two overnight camps for kids, patterned after Pennsylvania State Police training, will be held this summer and online applications are being accepted now.
It’s called Camp Cadet, and it’s for children from Montgomery, Delaware and Philadelphia counties ages 11 to 14- years-old.
“They’re basically waking up at five in the morning. They are doing PT. We are running with them. We are doing exercises with them. We are saluting the flag. They learn crime scene investigations. They are doing some rock climbing in Montgomery County. They are doing zip lining. We also have some of our assets coming out as well to visit. The search team. The bomb squad,” State Trooper Loretta Miree explained.
The week long residential camp is designed to give participants a better understanding of law enforcement activities, make new friends, learning self-control and develop team building skills.
This year there will be two camps.
The first is Philadelphia Camp Cadet, which will run from July 28 – Aug. 2. The other is Montgomery County Camp Cadet, and that will run from Aug. 18 through Aug. 23.
Miree says the camp will also cost $45. There is more information on the camp’s website: www.TroopKCampCadet.com.
