Discovery from WWII era causes bomb scare in Philly

The unusual discovery near Drexel University prompted a quick response from police and other emergency officials around noon on Friday.

Officials say construction workers were doing renovations inside the old armory building near 33rd and Market Streets, when they found two World War II explosives. They immediately called the police.

The U.S. military bomb squad, Philadelphia Police, the fire department and medics rushed to the scene.

Officials removed the explosives after they determined the devices were inactive and not a threat. There were traffic delays in the area, but the scene was cleared in about two hours.
