PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This week on Flashpoint: Host and KYW Community Affairs reporter Cherri Gregg asks the burning questions about the Marsy’s Law amendment to the Pennsylvania constitution. On Election Day, voters selected three to one to add the victim’s bill of rights statute to the state constitution. But days before, the League of Women Voters and the ACLU of Pennsylvania secured a court order blocking certification of the vote on the ballot question related to Marsy’s Law. What does it means for victims rights? Does the amendment violate the constitution?

ACLU of PA legislative director Liz Randol joins Michael Coard, a criminal defense attorney and columnist, Jennifer Storm, victim advocate for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and LaQuisha Anthony, a survivor and victim’s rights advocate for this heated discussion.

The newsmaker of the week is Philadelphia City Councilperson-elect Kendra Brooks. The mother of five made history on Election Day when she became the first third party candidate to snag one of the at-large city council seats reserved the for the minority party. A community organizer and activist, Brooks was drafted to run by the Working Families Party and raised more than $140,000 making the at-large city council race competitive during the general election for the first time in many, many years.

The changemaker of the week is the Carlton R. Rouh Veterans Center in Lindenwold, New Jersey. Named after the late U.S. Marine Captain Carlton R. Rouh, the non-profit offers veterans with a home away from home by providing a safe place for vets to congregate, learn, teach, mentor and inspire through education and therapy programs. Kathleen Van Stine, senior director for community relations of Spectra Care Foundation, is our guest.
