Flyers hire Alain Vigneault as new head coach

PHILADELPHIA (WIP Sportsradio) — The Flyers have named Alain Vigneault as the 21st head coach in franchise history, the team announced on Monday. 

“It is an honor to be selected as the next head coach of the Flyers,” Vigneault said. “The history they have established and the passionate fan base has made this a first-class franchise.”

Vigneault, 57, was the head coach of the Rangers from 2013-14 to to 2017-18. Before that, Vigneault was the coach of the Canucks for seven seasons and the Canadiens for four. 

Vigneault took the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2013-14 and the Canucks to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010-11.
