Health Department warns of potential hepatitis A exposure at South Philly Acme

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Health officials are warning customers of a South Philadelphia supermarket about possible exposure to hepatitis A.

The Philadelphia Health Department recently confirmed that an employee at the Acme on the 14-hundred block of East Passyunk Avenue has acute Hepatitis A.

Officials say the store is aware of the situation and is working collaboratively with the health department.

The risk of hepatitis A infection is very low. But the Health Department is recommending people who ate pre-cut fruit and vegetables purchased from the Acme Market between March 17th and March 29th of this year receive the hepatitis A vaccine as soon as possible.

People who have previously received two doses of hepatitis A vaccine or have had hepatitis A in the past do not need to be vaccinated.
