PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia is on pace for the deadliest year in more than a decade, with 202 homicides as of Tuesday morning.
The majority of the victims are men 34 and younger, according to statistics from the Philadelphia Police Department. A dozen women have died at the hands of another.
Most of the victims have been shot, more than a dozen have been stabbed, and seven have died of blunt force trauma.
Eight juveniles, all under 18, have been killed at the hands of another.
Half of this year’s homicides have been solved, according to police officials.
The commissioner, who is out of town and unavailable for comment, has said she wants to see 65% or more of the city’s homicides cleared by next year.
