PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say a teenager was killed after he was hit by a train in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood.
According to police two teenagers were crossing train tracks, not far from SEPTA’s Olney Station, around 6:30 Friday night.
That’s when Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says one of them was hit by an oncoming train.
“We know that the CSX freight train was traveling west on the tracks here at Mascher (Street) and Tabor (Road),” he said. “We’re also being told the train was going approximately 30-45 miles per hour, which it normally does at this location.”
The teen that was struck died on the scene. We don’t know his identity, Small says he’s no older than 16-years-old.
The second teenager ran off.
