PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two police officers are recovering from a crash in North Philadelphia. Police say their car was hit while they were responding to a shooting Sunday night.
The officers, who are from the 22nd district, weren’t seriously hurt and are expected to be okay.
There was a shooting on West Lehigh Avenue, not far from Broad Street around 7:15 p.m.
“We heard the gunshots. It was a couple gunshots that went off, like four or five,” Sean told CBS 3 Eyewitness News.
Police say a 19-year-old man was shot five times. And someone in a black Dodge picked him up to take him to the hospital. Two officers in their car saw the Dodge speed off with the victim. They were following it, lights and sirens on, when officers say they got into a crash with a gray Kia.
The cops and Kia driver all were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police say the victim of the shooting is in critical condition. And so far police haven’t been able to release any more information.
