Sixers’ Scott ruffles feathers with Redskins jersey gaffe

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Eagles beat the Redskins Sunday, but a confrontation at a pre-game tailgate is what’s commanding attention on social media Monday morning.

Sixers forward Mike Scott, who has been popular with fans since he arrived on the team in a trade last February, made some enemies when he showed up wearing Redskins gear.

Fans had prepared a mock funeral, complete with a casket draped with a Redskins jersey. Twitter video shows fans shouting expletives at Scott as he approaches the group moments before getting into a brief scuffle with a few of them.

No injuries were reported. And Police say there were no arrests.

The Sixers said in a statement: We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering more information. We will have no further comment at this time.

Eagles and Sixers fans alike may be wondering “What was he thinknig?” Remember, Scott grew up in southern Virginia, in Redskins country, and he went to the University of Virginia.

Aside from the confrontation, most Eagles fans seem to respect Scott’s Redskins fandom. And Scott didn’t let the scuffle get him down. Fans said he stuck around after the tailgate and took selfies with them.
