PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A nonprofit organization dedicated to getting girls interested in STEM careers held an event at Drexel University. Girls were coding at the same time in 15 locations throughout the country.
The organization known as TechGirlz had Saturday’s participants not only learning to create a webpage, but also coding at the same time as girls at 15 locations throughout the county.
“So the girls will be learning HTML and CSS. What will happen they will and populate their page once it’s all coded with a woman in history,” explained TechGirlz founder Tracey Welson-Rossman. “They get to select a woman in history.”
High school junior Lindsey Davis says she wants to pursue a career in the tech industry.
“I want to do artificial intelligence and kind of combine and see how our cognition can be used on devices and in humans and with children,” she said.
The organization holds free workshops lead by professionals in technology fields.
