What to do before your telehealth appointment

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) What you do before that telehealth visit can go a long way to make the experience more satisfying.

Telemedicine is a new experience for many of us, according to Dr. Paul Ufberg, a pediatric gastroenterologist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

“We are not expecting parents to be experts. In fact, what we’re asking them to do is work with us. The most important things that we want our parents to know, number one: be ready for it. Login early and make sure your device is working. Number two: talk to us and let us know what we can do to make it better. Be in a well lit room and be able to talk to us,” Ufberg advised.

You may need to download an app for your phone, so make sure you know how to use it. Turn your device off, then back on before the visit to clear out any open apps. Be in a quiet room and place your phone or tablet on a table at eye level, and have a list of questions ready, so you don’t forget to mention important topics.

“It really shouldn’t be any different in terms of the amount of face to face time you get with your provider. But, reducing travel time makes a big difference and you are not waiting in the waiting room, you can be comfortably at home,” he added.
